Life Boat EthicsYou are on a cruise (YAY!). The ship sank in stormy seas (bummer). You are in a lifeboat with 9 other people (10 total). There are seats for unto 20 people in the lifeboat. There are survival kits with supplies for 20 people. Each survival 'kit' has food, water and medical first aid supplies for one person for one week. There are 100 people in the water near enough to your boat that they can swim to you before they drown in the rough seas or the sharks get them (yes, there are sharks out there!). - Do you let anyone into your boat? Or do you keep all the supplies for those already on board? - How do you decide how many can come aboard? No matter what you do, 90 or more are going to die or swamp your boat! (then you all drown!) - How do you decide WHO can come aboard? No time for in-depth interviews here! - Do you keep everyone already in the boat IN the boat? Under what circumstances will you throw people already on board overboard? - How will you divvy up your supplies? Now that we've discussed and you've responded to the above questions, read the article below for block day. Comments are closed.

PurposeIn the Fall, we focus on the foundations of Philosophy and Logic, culminating with a project where you express your own Personal Ethical Code. In the Spring, we study ethical systems of thought and analyze their logic, ending with the development of your own nation, founded and run according to your ethical code.
