When creating your personal ethical code, it is important to ID who you are, at the core, and what actions your ethics demand of you, even when it's something you don't really want to do. Below, you will answer the following questions, in writing, about what you realistically think you would do, and what you know you 'should' do. Do you see yourself as consistent in your ethics? If not, why not? Then, only AFTER you've responded in writing, watch the video showing how others responded to a similar scenario. Noisy Neighbors You hear a lot of noise coming from next door (loud party or drumming). It's late and you have to be up for school/work in the morning. How to you handle the situation? Now, answer again (separate paragraph), but this time the loud noise is an argument, and a woman screaming as though being beaten. Do you react to this scenario as you did to the other annoying noise scenario? What do you do? Would you behave differently if the one screaming and being beaten were a child? Now, watch the video below and respond (another ¶) what your thoughts are on this scenario. I Love You Unconditionally How do you feel committed couples should treat each other? Is it ok for a man/boy to push/hit his partner? It it ok for a woman to push/hit her partner? Is there ever a time physically harming a loved one is acceptable? What about pushing/hitting your child? What would you do if you witnessed a teen abusing his partner? Respond what you would do. Then watch the video and write another ¶ in response. What if the abuser were older? Would your actions be different? Respond. Watch the video and write down your reactions. Turn in the assignment. Go to the Google Form linked below and fill it in for each student in the class (NOT for yourself). The teacher will call each student's name off the role. That person will stand for 10 seconds. Then the class will evaluate that person, based on your individual knowledge of that person, right now. Keep it positive and keep the comments appropriate. You ARE being graded on the quality of the feedback you give (Truth? I'm giving full credit to all unless you make negative, inappropriate, silly, or meaningless comments). Have FUN with this! Honor what's great about each other! You WILL get to see the feedback! (after grading and I remove the names) |
PurposeIn the Fall, we focus on the foundations of Philosophy and Logic, culminating with a project where you express your own Personal Ethical Code. In the Spring, we study ethical systems of thought and analyze their logic, ending with the development of your own nation, founded and run according to your ethical code.
