Plainswoman by Williams Forrest
The environment in which we live often shapes the person we become. "Adapt or die"; we must change to survive in the world; the world will not change to fit our wants. As we read, pay attention to the world Nora comes from and the "turning points" where her world changes and she must adapt. Does she "win" in this battle of mind over matter, or does the environment defeat her spirit?

Only Daughter by Sandra Cisneros
Sometimes it is the people in our lives who influence and shape us. They lead by example, by their words, by their values, by their everyday conduct in their lives. They are not always a hero or a role model, yet they become a part of us and shape who we are.
