Submit each assignment to TII by 8 AM on block day as we will be doing our peer edits in class.
- Timed write #9
-Finish discussion of "The Battle with the Dragon" and "The Death of Beowulf".
HW: Get a copy (physical or e-text) of Dante's Inferno (I like the John Ciardi, for which you'd have to pay, or the FREE Longfellow translations, but any full text translation that works for you is ok).
- This week we will work on three short-write essays on Tuesday, peer editing on Wednesday, and a longer final draft essay on Friday. We will also intro Inferno and add some background.
I made an error. In past years the sources and annotations were due at the same time. Not this year. I should have only required the classes have their sources for Friday.
Anyone with their sources is fine. The annotations are not due until Oct 12. It won't hurt anyone to have it done sooner and will give an opportunity for corrections and more credit. Still, I apologize for the stress caused by my mistake.
-- Mrs. Bradley
No later than Friday at 8 AM to Classroom (hard copy only if you emailed me that you are doing so):
- 10 authoritative sources on the topic of your SP
- All 10 of of those sources must be from juried or peer reviewed publications.
- Annotate your sources according to the 7 steps on the LEO sir (see English home page for the Annotations link).
*This assignment is an exercise in finding good sources and evaluating what a good source IS. While the TOPIC of the research should be your SP, and it's hoped this helps with your physical SP and your research paper, you are not required to use these sources in your actual paper (though it is hoped you aren't wasting your time on frivolous matters).
!!!! HW!!!!! Read Beowulf reading assignment #3 (Battle w/Grendel's Mother)
SP: Ten authoritative sources due by next Friday (9/26/14)
Read 2nd Beowulf assignment for Monday
You'll submit to the Google Classroom by 7 PM Friday. Please note that the portfolio is to be a single doc, not several different docs. Timed writes may be turned in hard copy or included in the online submission via pictures etc.
You must submit the doc via your school account. If you did the work in your personal account, either share it with your school account OR you will have to manually move the docs around.
The first docs should be a brief reflection (on paragraph) on how you feel about your own writing and development. Below this, list the three documents on which you want intensive feedback (100 pts each). Documents, including all drafts, should be in chronological order (100 pts).
You will lose 5 pts for each that was turned in late, but complete. Missing documents lower your grade by one letter grade off the grade earned. So do all work, and do it well, even if it's late.

Intro to Kennings: two-word descriptive phrase that replaces a noun, similar to the function of a pronoun.
ID the kennings we still use in our world today. For HW, create (5) five original kennings (don't Google it and copy existing ones; write your own, "from scratch"!).
